Reddit threads were cited 3 times in our 25-question check on 2026-10-21, and all 3 came from Google AI Overviews: a thread on getting ChatGPT to recommend a product, one on getting a company mentioned in ChatGPT, and one on getting ChatGPT to know a product exists. Perplexity, with 250 citations in the same run, cited no Reddit page. Neither did ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude.
Percentages for Reddit's share of AI citations circulate online, often without a named sample or date. The largest dated study we have read, commissioned by Trustpilot and run by Seer Interactive in March 2026 across 804,491 AI responses on four platforms, put user-generated content at 5% of citations, against 76% for the general web and 14% for review and trust sites. That study is about brand questions in eight US industries, and it was commissioned by a review platform, so its emphasis is on reviews; the Reddit figure is a by-product.
What this means
Reddit matters most for Google's AI features, which index it like any other site, and for product and recommendation questions where threads rank. For the how-to questions in our run, it barely appeared. If you answer questions on Reddit, do it where you have evidence to offer, and measure whether the threads you take part in start appearing in answers to your buyers' questions. Do not build an AI visibility plan on Reddit alone.
