It depends on the question. Our 617-citation check of how-to questions on 2026-10-21 ("How do I get cited by Perplexity?", "Should I block GPTBot?") produced no citation of G2, Capterra or Trustpilot at all, because nobody asks a review site how to configure robots.txt. The day before, when we asked which AI visibility tools are best, G2 was among the sources named. And when we asked for a dentist in Austin, a plumber in Leeds and an accountant in Manchester, ChatGPT and Perplexity cited Healthgrades, Zocdoc, Checkatrade, TrustATrader, Which? Trusted Traders and Clutch, and quoted their ratings and review counts.
The largest dated study we have read agrees. Trustpilot commissioned Seer Interactive to analyse 804,491 AI responses about 1,926 US brands in eight industries across four platforms in March 2026. Review and trust sites were the second most cited source category at 14%, behind the general web at 76%. The share rose with intent: 2% of citations for awareness questions, 16% for evaluation, 24% at the point of purchase. The study was paid for by a review platform and reports Trustpilot's own advantage, so read the headline lifts with that in mind; the category-level shares are the useful part.
What to do
- Ask the assistants the question your buyer asks when they are about to choose, and note which review site each one cites. For software it is often G2 or Capterra; for clinics Healthgrades or Zocdoc; for trades Checkatrade or TrustATrader.
- Claim the profile there, keep the facts identical to your website, and keep reviews coming in. Recent reviews are what the assistants quote.
- Treat the profile as a page you maintain, because for the purchase question it is the page that gets read.
