People search for "add my business to ChatGPT" and "ChatGPT business listing" because that is how Google and Bing work: you claim a profile and fill it in. OpenAI has nothing like it for a business.
The one submission path OpenAI documents is a product feed for merchants. It takes one row per purchasable item with nine required fields: item id, title, description, URL, brand, seller name, image URL, availability and price. Products in the feed become eligible for shopping results, and the page is careful to say that "eligibility does not guarantee display". Checkout is a separate integration. The feed has no place for a plumber, a clinic or an agency, because it describes things you can put in a basket.
What ChatGPT reads instead
When we asked ChatGPT for an accountant in Manchester, a dentist in Austin and a plumber in Leeds on 2026-10-21, it cited Clutch, Healthgrades, Zocdoc and Checkatrade, and quoted their ratings and review counts. That is the listing. It belongs to the directory, not to you, and you keep it accurate the same way you keep a Google Business Profile accurate.
What to do
- Claim and complete the profiles on the directories ChatGPT cites for your trade. Ask it your own question in a fresh session to find out which ones.
- Keep your Google Business Profile and Bing Places current. Google's AI Overviews showed Google ratings in a local pack for two of our three questions.
- Put one page on your own site with the plain facts: what you do, where, for whom, and what it costs. Perplexity cited firms' own sites alongside the directories.
- Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt, so ChatGPT's own index can read that page.
